Why surveying your team members at this time is important

The pandemic has forever changed our lives and how organizations worldwide operate. A new work era has begun, one in which team members favor flexibility like never before. A 2020 survey report by Deloitte U.S. showed that 94% of respondents said they “would benefit from work flexibility.”

This makes it obvious that managers and businesses must adapt if they want to attract and retain their people. Now more than ever – especially in a volatile job market where turnover is at its highest – listening to employee feedback and taking action on their needs is the strategy to success.

Many employees and managers are nervous about seeing the organization of their professional life disrupted, bringing uncertainty and change in which they will need to adapt (yet again).

With this in mind, we’ve created a return to work survey template with the questions you need to prepare a return to the office that will address the needs and concerns of your team members. Our questions will help you identify and apply learnings from the remote work experience with amazing and valuable inputs from the people who matter most: your employees.

Return to work survey questions for employees

Our return to work survey questions for employees will enable two very important aspects of your return to work plan:

1. Gauging team member and organizational readiness

Are your employees ready to go back to the office, even partially? What are their concerns about safety and are these being properly addressed? Surveying your team in times of change will have a major impact on the quality of the employee/employer relationship, affecting communication, trust and ambassadorship – all key components of employee engagement.

Some questions we’ve included in this employee survey template to help you gauge readiness:

  • Do you feel our organization is communicating effectively during this period of change?

  • On a scale from 0-10, how much do you trust that you can transparently convey any concerns you have during this transition to management?

  • What would you need to feel comfortable and safe coming back to work at the office?

2. Applying learnings and focusing on positive outcomes

Although many struggled to adapt to remote work at first, this forced working arrangement brought many learnings and benefits with time. Identifying and understanding those learnings will help your team and organization prosper in the future. What’s more, you can defuse any stress and negative anticipation that may come with an eventual return to the office by focusing on the positive outcomes that can come with returning to the office!

Some questions we’ve included in this employee survey template to help you do this:

  • Looking back, have you been equally as productive, less productive, or more productive while working remotely?

  • What are your greatest learnings from the remote work experience, and which do you wish to see become rituals moving forward?

  • Should history repeat itself, what’s one suggestion you have for our organization about closing and/or reopening the office?

  • What are you most looking forward to about returning to the office?
